Enrichment

At Godstone Primary and Nursery School we believe that enriching the curriculum with hands-on learning opportunities, visitors and visits enables the children to explore and remember their learning in meaningful ways.

Visitors

We welcome visitors to the school to enrich the curriculum.  We have had visits from Nite Owls, a theatre company performing a pantomime, musicians, scientists, ministers and vicars, sports coaches, Bikeability, Godstone Gardening Club and many more.

Local Learning Area: Godstone Green and Tennis Courts

Godstone Green is right next to the school, and we use it regularly in our lessons, for example, nature walks and PE lessons.  Parents would not normally be informed of these trips as there are no roads to be crossed.  There would always be a minimum of two adults present, but this may be higher depending on the needs and ages of the children.

Local Learning Area: Godstone Village

The village of Godstone has lots of learning opportunities within it.  For example, Year One learn about the local history and visit St. Nicholas Church and Year Four study the traffic and buildings as part of their geography learning.  Nursery and Reception are often out and about exploring the local area and use the local shop to buy ingredients for cooking or do traffic surveys.  Year Six use The White Hart Barn to perform their end of year production.

The children also visit St Nicholas Church for harvest and Christmas and Godstone Baptist Church at Christmas.

All these visits are part of the normal early years or national curriculum and take place during school hours.  Parents are usually informed of these visits and permission is given annually to allow flexibility in when these visits take place.

The potential hazards when using the village have been identified and measures are taken to reduce the risks.  There is always a minimum of two members of staff and volunteers are used to meet the needs and age of the children.  The children are fully briefed on the expectations of behaviour and the nature of the visit.

The local learning area is marked in red on the map below:

Trips

Every class goes on at least one trip.  These can include trips to Godstone Farm (Nursery), Oxted Library and Kent Life (Reception), Brighton Sealife Centre (Year One), Redhill Mosque (Years Two and Three), Wakehurst (Year Two), Michelham Priory (Year Three), The Sustainability Centre (Years Four and Five) and High Ashurst or Hindleap Warren (Year Six).  In years four, five and six we have residential trips that begin with a one-night stay and build up to four nights away from home.
