Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
Mrs Geary is the Year 5 class teacher and Mrs Keogh is the teaching assistant.
In Year 5, we intend to spend the year immersed in knowledge, culture and thinking by inspiring our children to develop a lifelong love of learning. Through our ambitious curriculum and a range of experiential learning opportunities, we aim to provide the children with the tools they need to succeed in life, whilst in a safe environment.
This year will begin by taking a step into ‘Infinity and Beyond’! Our first theme will see us learning about Earth and Space, creating biographies on female astronauts and writing our own adventure story based on the book ‘The Girl of Ink and Stars’.
Moving towards Christmas, we will explore ‘Extreme Earth’, focusing our studies around volatile volcanoes and investigating the forces that affect the world around us. Our reading and writing will be based on the scarily-good Frankenstein.
In the spring, our learning will centre around ‘From Field to Fork’ through investigating WW2 battles, healthy eating and animal life cycles. As we flow in the direction of Easter, we will focus our attention on rivers, current affairs, changing materials (and their properties). We will also enjoy the amazing residential at Juniper Hall.
As the end of the year draws closer, we will explore changes in our bodies, the importance of understanding the views of others and study Macbeth. By the end of the year, we will be in ‘Peak Performance’ swotting up on our knowledge about the importance of magnificent mountains, perfect poetry and climate change. We will all be in a state of ‘reflect, rewind and replay’ to ready us for our next great adventure in Year 6.
